DANCE CHALLENGE I - VIRAL DANCE OF 2050
We just can't stop watching viral dance videos these days.
Think you've got what it takes to create the next RENEGADE?
We want YOU to show us the Viral Dance of 2050 by creating dance videos of your own.
Show us your groove, your style, and your mood. We want you to challenge our perception of what viral dance videos of the future can be.
A selection of videos chosen by Victor Fung Dance will be featured in our upcoming Dance Animation Series and a chance to receive an artistic creation award of £100. This dance challenge is opened to anyone between the ages of 13 - 21 (with no limit on age of collaborators).
Submissions are welcomed from young people in the UK and internationally. We will be choosing at least one entry from participants in each of the following regions of the UK for our selection:
- East of England (sponsored by DanceEast)
- South East of England (sponsored by South East Dance)
- North East, North West, Yorkshire and the Humber of England (sponsored by NSCD)

We are all hugely affected by the pandemic. But let's #dancepastit together.
Join us in 4 simple steps

1. Choose a song
You can use any royalty-free music you like for the choreographic challenge. Royalty-free music are ones where musicians/composers have given permission for their music to be used for specific purposes without charge. If you are not sure what this means, you can go to websites such as Facebook Sound Collection, Bensound, and Audionautix for music that you can use to create video content.
Or you can have a listen to our top ten choices curated for you here.

2. Create a dance
Be unique. Be imaginative. Create an original dance video that is no longer than 60 seconds. The choreography can be in any dance or movement styles. You are the artist so feel free to mix things up, keep things simple, or be as fancy as you would like. You can get others involved in the video as well (while respecting social distancing and other COVID related guidelines of course).

3. Post the video
Once you have created your video, post it on Instagram or Facebook (set the post to public so we can see it) with both of our hashtags #dancepastit #ttspviraldance. Tag us @victorfungdance.
Feel free to tell us more about the video you have created in the caption including the collaborators, the concept, and the creative process.

4. Complete the form
Click here to fill in the registration form and upload your video to officially enter our callout. You will need to create a Google account if you do not already have one. For participants under 16 years of age, you must ask your guardian to fill in the consent form in order to complete your registration.
DO NOT share your personal information on social media; we will never ask for your personal details on Instagram or Facebook.

Remember, it's all about letting your creativity shine through the dance video you make. Support others by searching for videos under #dancepastit and giving them a LIKE (and I am sure they will do the same in return). Be respectful of one another on social media and treat others the way you'd like to be treated. Read our safeguarding policy to learn ways in which we protect you and for resources on how you can protect yourself and others online. Enjoy and have fun!

Frequently asked questions

1. Do I have to be aged 13-21 to participate?
We want young people to lead on the project so the participant submitting the video entry must be between the ages of 13-21. However, there is no age limit on the people you collaborate with. In fact, we encourage you to collaborate with others (as long as you follow the latest Covid-19 restrictions in your area).

2. Do I have to create my own dance?
YES. This dance challenge is a choreographic challenge, meaning you have to create your own original dance material rather than copying existing dance sequences or dance pieces.

3. Is there a limit on dance styles?
NO. You can create in any dance style. Feel free to mix this up. Sky's the limit!

4. Can I submit more than one dance video?
NO. Each participant can only submit one video entry as part of the challenge.

5. What if I have never made a dance before?
The beautiful thing about making dance is there is no right or wrong way to do it. Any movement can be turned into a dance piece. Music is always a good place to start so choose a piece of music that naturally makes you want to move; something that make you bop your head or tap your feet (you know what I'm talking about).
If you follow us on Instagram and Facebook, we will be posting ideas and tips to get you started. Give it a go. You'll be surprised by how putting a few movements together can make an amazing dance piece.

6. What if I have lots of experience in dance and choreography?
For those of you who have lots of experiene in dance, we can't wait for you to show us all that you've got.
We want you to be creative so this is a great chance to step out of your comfort zone and try something different. You can challenge yourself by choosing music that you have never danced to or choreographed with before. You might want to try movements from dance forms you have never tried before. Think about different ways you can challenge yourself - the best choreographers are the ones that keeps pushing their own boundaries.

7. How will the video be selected?
We are looking for dance videos that are creative and innovative; something unique that surprise us and catch our eyes. We want to see something that captures our imagination and challenges our perception of what viral dance videos could be in 2050.

8. Can I participate if I don't have a Facebook or Instagram account / if I don't want to post my video on social media?
Please contact Victor Fung Dance here and let us know your situation. We will try our best to accomodate your needs.
