As we find ourselves deeply wedged in this post-truth era, what is seems to have less significance than what we choose to believe in. The Chinese idiom "指鹿為馬" (literally translates as “pointing to a deer and calling it a horse”) is traditionally used to criticise those who intentionally reverses right from wrong. Yet increasingly, the ability to do so appears to be a norm for contemporary existence; in a world of memes, fake news, and alternative truths, the ability to fabricate meaning is seemingly a skill set that one must master in order to survive.

 

Finding Meaning in an Uncertain World is a multi-dimensional dance experience that explores how meaning can be exploited, distorted and manipulated; who ultimately holds the power to what is "true". In this 50-minute choreographic work, choreographer Victor Fung explore the logos of contemporary dance through experimenting with spectatorship, challenging the ways in which meaning is generated and deciphered in contemporary dance. Audience actively participates in the viewing experience by choosing between multiple audio narratives that accompanies the choreography. As the actions unfold, viewers engage with the work through a constant negotiation between making sense of what they hear in relation to what they see.
